TOEFL practice questions, one task type at a time
1261+ questions across 237 sets, split into two difficulty layers that mirror the real test's two adaptive stages.
PrepScore organises its TOEFL bank by the 12 official task types rather than as a mixed question pool, so you can drill the one that is costing you band. Each task type is split into a basic and an advanced layer, and every question carries a full explanation.
Why by task type, not mixed
A mixed set tells you your overall accuracy, which you already roughly know. It does not tell you that your Listen and Choose a Response accuracy is fine while your Announcement accuracy is not — and on a test where one weak section drags the average, that distinction is the whole game.
The two layers
Every task type has a basic layer and an advanced layer, split at the difficulty the real test uses to separate its two adaptive stages. The advanced layer unlocks once your basic-layer accuracy passes 60% over at least eight questions. That gate exists for a reason: practising only comfortable questions is how people end up meeting the harder stage two for the first time on test day.
What an explanation contains
- The point being tested — named, so you can recognise the pattern next time.
- The route to the answer — how to get there, not just where it is.
- Every option taken apart on multiple-choice items, including why the attractive wrong one is wrong.
- The language point where one is doing the work — the idiom, the structure, the register.
The free plan caps how many questions you can answer a day, not whether you get taught. Every question you do answer comes with its complete explanation.
Practise the 2026 format, not the old one
Every task type in the current test, a full explanation on every question, and a band estimate that shows where your next half band comes from.
Frequently asked questions
Are the TOEFL practice questions free?
Ten a day are free, with the full explanation on each. Pro removes the daily cap.
How many TOEFL practice questions are there?
Around 1261 in the practice pool across 237 sets, plus 10 full mock papers that are kept separate so mock questions never leak into practice.
Do the questions match the 2026 format?
Yes — they are written for the twelve current task types, with none of the retired formats such as the independent essay or integrated speaking tasks.
What is the difference between the basic and advanced layers?
They split at the difficulty the real test uses to separate its two adaptive stages. The advanced layer unlocks once you clear 60% accuracy over at least eight basic-layer questions.
